Bahrain Specialist Hospital has been able to grow at a steady pace because we are steadfast in following our core values, which has always been keeping the patient’s health, safety, and satisfaction in the forefront.

Before the physical establishment of Bahrain Specialist Hospital, the vision of my late father, may he rest in peace, the notable Rashid bin Abdul Rahman Al-Zayani was to provide high quality private health care for our community in Bahrain that is comparable to any reputable hospital in which a patient would have to travel to. We have been long time advocates of empowering Bahrain and its people from an economic, educational, and professional standpoint. Bahrain Specialist Hospital has been able to provide comfort and ease of mind to mothers worrying about their ill children, answers to patients that haven’t been able to get clear and accurate diagnosis, and support to many new born babies and their parents.

Since 2002, we have not for a single day forgotten the tradition «of Giving back to the society from which one is benefitted». In expanding the services offered at Bahrain Specialist Hospital, we have also contributed to the community in areas from health education, philanthropic health checkups, and public health events. With the marking of 20 years of success, Bahrain Specialist Hospital is making use of its most cherished assets its 20 years’ worth of experience, its brand, its trustworthiness and its spirit to expand and evolve the organization, while at the same time serving the country, upholding Bahrain’s heritage, and devoting its efforts to the community.

On this occasion, I recall with gratitude the drive and initiative of the pioneers of this hospital who had not only set up the first private hospital of the country to get Joint Commission International (JCI) accreditation, but also had a vision to build it up to be a trend setting hospital in Bahrain. I take this opportunity to appreciate the Board of Directors for their invaluable guidance and directions. My appreciation for the contribution of all our colleagues must also be put on record - all members of the Bahrain Specialist Hospital family who are with us and also to those who are no longer with us, but their contributions are remembered with gratitude.

It is the right moment for us all to renew our pledge to further strengthen the position of our hospital. To remain in the position of a leading hospital in the coming days and years, will demand innovation, dedication, best technology backed patient service, but above all continuous support from our business partners, regulators and shareholders

I came back to Bahrain in 1986 after being away from Bahrain for more than 20 years because I was studying in the US. When I came back, I was disappointed to see how the private sector of healthcare was very underdeveloped and I could see the need for a tertiary center in Bahrain.

By pure coincidence, I got an invite by His Majesty King Hamad Bin Isa Al-Khalifa in 1988, and he requested that I establish a private hospital in Bahrain. I was really honored and surprised and explained that it wouldn t be a small and easy project. It would require a lot of funds, land, planning, etc. He asked me to pursue this project and he would support it.

I presented the idea to my father (God bless his soul), and my father was very excited and encouraged me to put myself to the challenge. I explained to him that it wouldn t be a small project, so he suggested to start small and grow bigger. I explained there s no such thing as a small hospital these days because quality care is being able to treat the patient entirely.

In spite of multiple meetings with multiple business men, they did not feel very excited to open a private health facility. Most of investors said that when we get sick, we go abroad and get treated why would we need it? I felt very disappointed and was about to give up, but I had a father that wouldn't let people give up. He pushed me and told me never give up your dreams.

Eventually in the year 2000, we were able to bring minimal funds from investors and were able to start the project, but we were still lacking a location.

On a very early Friday morning, I was discouraged that the project was still not moving as I expected and decided to take a stroll around the island with my husband, Dr. Kasim.

We found this abandoned building and the gate keeper said it was planned to be a hotel but the project had been stopped for a couple of years. The same evening, we were able to find out who the owner was and asked him if he would be willing to be a shareholder in our hospital. He welcomed the idea and that is how we were finally able to start.

We have established a hospital with high reputation and have solved many unsolved cases. We are known to solve very challenging cases and undiagnosed cases even after patients consult abroad.

I still remember our beginnings as we worked hard to establish this great medical institution, more than 20 years ago, and today as we celebrate the twentieth anniversary of the establishment of Bahrain Specialist Hospital. Here we recall all those years and all those efforts we made together, and all those attempts that we have made for this great goal, especially my late father, the notable Rashid bin Abdul Rahman Al-Zayani, may his soul rest in peace, and all those who worked with us from shareholders, investors, and all medical, nursing, and non-medical staff.

From the very beginning, our endeavours were dedicated to the advancement of medical services in the Kingdom of Bahrain and the region. During its 20 years, the hospital achieved great medical successes and achievements, and this came in light of the commitment of its staff to raising the level of standards in all services and medical departments provided, which qualified it to obtain the highest levels of local and international accreditation, and contributed to the advancement of the medical and health sector in the Kingdom of Bahrain.

Some of the notable achievements Bahrain Specialist Hospital has earned include obtaining accreditation from th Joint Commission International (US) JCI for four consecutive times, in 2011, 2014, 2017, and 2021, which is the first private hospital in the Kingdom of Bahrain to achieve this rare feat, and also the Diamond Status from NHRA.

Bahrain Specialist Hospital has also initiated many community health, medical, scientific and social initiatives, which was our way of giving back to our community.

The hospital is also been working hard in the advancement and development of the health sector in the Kingdom of Bahrain, through active participation and cooperation with all government and private agencies to continue working to develop health services in the Kingdom.

Together, we look forward to our relentless pursuit and hard work to provide the best possible specialized and distinguished medical services to the community of Bahrain.
